DESCRIPTION: APW - Hamilton, Grade 992, mvt marked "Special" and "Engineer," 21J, 16S, white gold-filled OF Hamilton Model 5 case, "Hamilton Adjusted For Special RR Service 21 Jewels" marked white enamel DS dial, time zone hands, fully capped lever escapement, ornate two-tone gilt and nickel damascene, s#870603. An extremely rare marking; this is the only example of a Grade 992 marked "Special" and "Engineer" that we have encountered. This watch was pictured in the "Railroader's Corner" article by Ed Ueberall and Kent Singer in the August 2001 issue of the NAWCC Bulletin. From the well-known Hamilton collection of Robert Bennett of Olivehurst, California.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, good two-tone color, spot at edge of train bridge above "M" of Hamilton marking, some oxide to regulator assembly; excellent dial with very faint outer chapter hls at 4, few mild fine scratches, small abrasion at edge under bezel at 1:30; nearly mint hands; case shows little wear, few small nicks to band and rear, no dents; tight bow, crown shows little wear and has a tendency to rub the pendant when winding; clean plastic crystal.
